Cycling 15,000 miles across Eurasia to document people, stories, and food.
Enviado por amie em qua, 2012-01-25 03:59
Hello everybody,
On February 29, Olli and I are cycling from the west coast of continental Europe to the east coast of Asia. We are flying to Spain from Helsinki, detouring to Portugal, and then going east towards Vietnam. We started a storytelling project to document people, stories, and food along the way. See all the details at http://internationalsupperclub.org/about
Feel free to send me a message if you live on our route. We are looking forward to meeting cyclists along the way!
Last year I cycled around Europe for six months and met many wonderful people (including Olli) from the Warmshowers community.
Happy 2012 and happy pedaling!
Amie

Hello!
I am definitely on your route so if you come to Croatia 'till May, be free to contact me!
Cheers,

Croatia!
Hi Snjezana!
Thanks for the offer. I am a little allergic to dogs, but maybe with enough medication...
I'll keep you posted! If we are nearby, we could have tea at the very least!
Amie
your trip!
Hello Amie,
What is the link to your website? the one in the message did not work for me.
Sounds like a wonderful trip. Bon appetite!

Whoops
Hi Matt,
Thanks for catching my typo. I corrected it. It's http://internationalsupperclub.org, not super club!
(Although maybe it can be that too...)
How long do you estimate this
How long do you estimate this taking? Big trip. Should be excellent.
12-18 months
Hi Rich,
It will take at least a year, probably more. The not-so-secret dream is to keep going after we finish. My hometown is Seattle. Perhaps we will stop there or somewhere in Asia to earn some money and then tackle the Americas.
We're going to add a touring blog to our site soon. I'm getting really excited!
OK. I have a tour in Europe
OK. I have a tour in Europe soon, and trying to wrap my head around how long it should take to travel comfortably through areas of the World. I need to make progress, but I know I want to stick around some places.
Where are you going?
Where and when are you going and for how long? I might be able to answer some questions from my tour last year. I planned my route as I went along. That seemed to work out well. Some surprises, like Poland for over a month...

Hi there. Thanks for the
Hi there. Thanks for the reply & map.
I don't publish when I am on such a tour, for security reasons. But west of there for 6 countries. I've done Europe before in a group, so I have an idea. Planning while I ride is what I want to rely on, given Warmshowers, wireless, GPS, and all that.
Cheers
Enjoy!
Hi Rich,
Sounds like it will be a good trip. I dropped by McDonald's often to use their free wifi. Should be quite easy to arrange hosts, etc.
I hope you have a lot of sunny days and tailwinds!
Congratulations for this decision
Hello dear
I'm from Iran. I will be happy, when you come to my country. You can be my guest, if you would like .
I hope see you
Ramin
Looking forward to Iran
Hello Ramin,
We have heard so many nice things about cycling in Iran and are looking forward to it. Hopefully I will be able to get a visa. I'll stay in touch.
Take care,
Amie
Germany
Hey Amie,
your project looks like beautiful. On November I should also ride across Asia, but unluckily I don't have such a specific (and good) project, even though I hope to come up with some nice ideas. By the way now I am in Munich, which does not appear on your route, but if you change your itinerary, contact me, I'll be happy to host you or have a chat!
Francesco
p.s. Have you thought about language barrier? I mean, as long as you are in Europe it is (almost) no problem to communicate in English, but I guess in Asia it won't be that easy and for your project you really do need to communicate!
Hello!
Hi Francesco,
What route are you taking across Asia? Maybe we'll run into each other. I didn't get to spend much time in Germany and would like to visit again in the future.
When possible, we want to let people tell their own stories by using direct quotes, but for places where a language barrier exists, the stories will have to be told from our point of view (our observations, photos, etc.)
Good luck planning for your trip this autumn! Thank you for your nice comments about our project. Hopefully our paths will cross one day.

Route
My ideal route would be through Iran, central Asia, China and then South to Australia, but I sill have to take a final decision. For instance I don't know how ideal would be to cross Turkey in winter.
It would be quite nice to cross into each other, I'll try to keep me updated following your site. You can have a look at my site (http://ivegotabike.wordpress.com/) to see if I stick to that route or not.
Francesco
We are doing similar trips!
My boyfriend and I are leaving on almost the same date to trip around Asia. He really wanted to do a Eurasia trip, just like you are doing, however, I didn't think it was possible with all the Visa's I thought you'd need in Russia, Iran, China and more.
I'm going to look into your trip on your website and see how feasible it is. Regardless, we might like doing at least a day or few with you all to start!

Hello!
Hi Donna!
It's definitely possible. Lots of cyclists cross Eurasia. Visas are a bit tricky (and seem overwhelming), but there is a lot of information online from other travelers. My website won't be the best for that kind of information because we haven't been there yet!
Where will you guys start and when?
Good luck with everything!
Amie
Re: Hello!
We start on or about the 21st of this month. I was able to leave work in the US more quickly than Jason. We will be ferrying off of England to mainland to start. I'm in Basildon, Essex area of England now. We'd love to do a leg of the trip with you if we can meet up. My cell and Jason's is on my profile, or we can message any of the Yahoo or Skype ways.
Good luck to you guys too!
