cycling in europe this summer anyone?

Hi my name is Sally I'm 25 and from melbourne, and I'm planning a trip to cycle around Europe this summer, starting in June and probably going for around 4 months or so. At this stage I'm going solo but I'd much prefer to have a cycle buddy! I would like to cycle in Norway//Sweden, and head south jumping across to Eastern Europe, going through Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. This plan is really rough though, I'm very flexible. I plan to camp along the way and just cruise, not planning to bust my boiler! I am a friendly and easy going person, anyone out there interested? my email is sallywemyss@gmail.com

Yes, I live in Southwest Poland, a great cycling region by the way. I have cycled extensively throughout Poland and Europe, in all the countries you mentioned. I’d be glad to share any information with you. Of course if you are in my neighborhood, we’d be glad to host you. My 6 year old daughter loves to practice her English with our cycling friends.

I'll be cycling this year around Europe, starting in May or June. I'm going from Croatia, to Italy, France (maybe Spain and Portugal), UK and Ireland, and then German down to Black Sea via Euro Velo 6 (Danube bike path). The plan is to be in Turkey, Antalya, for New Year.
So, if you want to do some parts, or all the way together, I'll be glad!

Hi, I'm thinking of biking Europe as well; but thinking of Lisbon to Istanbul, most likely taking the Danube route after crossing the Alps though nothing is certain just yet and I've considered starting in Scandinavia (even looked at crossing Iceland and taking a ferry to Denmark).
Where do you plan on finishing? I'm looking at sending the bike home in Turkey and continuing overland to the Caucasuses, India, and SE Asia.

Hi, sounds like a great trip! My plans are very loose as well at the moment, at this stage I'll be starting in Norway/Sweden in early July, then jump across to Poland and head south eventually hitting the adriatic or mediterranian sea somewhere. I think I'd like to make a detour along the Danube at some point though too. I'm not sure where I will be ending my tour, I really don't know that one but I think it will end in late October/early November. Are you cycling solo? I'm planning to head to Asia after Europe too, head over in November I think. I'm also considering sending my bike home too, but haven't yet worked out how much that will cost me. Maybe we could cycle together for a bit? When are you starting your tour? If you plan to start in Scandinavia I'd be keen to have a cycle buddy around there!

Hey,
At this point I'll probably be leaving about a month or two before you but that's not certain. I'm planning on starting out in May from Portugal or Spain. I'm cycling solo, but would rather have someone come along as I plan on camping most nights. I'm also looking at sending the bike home, though I'm not sure if that'll be affordable so I may just sell or donate it in Istanbul. I'm planning an extended stop in Vienna to visit family, so maybe we can cycle together afterwards when you meet up with the Danube.
My dates are pretty uncertain right now, but if I do end up leaving later I'm thinking of a more northerly route (Scandinavia) to avoid the heat of Southern Europe. I'll let you know when I figure out more details.

I really don't know when I'd be around there though because I havnt sat down and worked out how long it will take me to get places, being new to touring and all. I'm flying into Helsinki in mid or late May and I'm thinking a quick loop through St. Petersburg and Tallinn, up to the Arctic Circle for Solstice then south from there with no real plans (and these are also very loose!). I'd love to meet up along the way!

I'm planning on heading south through Norway, Sweden and Denmark, then from there I'm not sure. I just learned about the Schengen agreement so that might have some impact on my route! I was planning on spending the winter in the Alps or Mediterranean, but if I can only spend a total of 90 days in those countries that might not work out so well - I'm still researching. Has anyone else who this applies to done any research for staying for a longer period of time?

Hi,
I plan cycling around the Europe along the coast. Start in May, near Wrocław/Poland and through the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania I ride to Black Sea. From there I will try to cycle as near coast as possible and return to Poland.
Maybe we meet somehwere. :-)

I think I will be doing a similar route through Eastern Europe but starting in August because I dont get to Europe until late June and I will be going to Norway/Sweden area first. How long are you planning to be riding? Will you by any chance be heading towards the adriatic/mediteranian seas in September/October?

Well Sally, it looks like your forum thread is going to lead to a convergence in Istanbul. lol I've also posted a 'round-Europe tour starting in May. This is my thread (http://www.warmshowers.org/content/looking-partners-southern-france-scan...) and this is my first stab at an itinerary (http://g.co/maps/v3vwn).
We may not all link up because of different startup times and travelling speeds but we all look like we're going to be in the Istanbul region by the fall (me) and in the New Year for others.

North Sea Cycle Route
Hi Sally.
A fellow Aussie setting off around the same time as you for six months in Europe before I meet my kids for xmas (ish). I am considering doing the North Sea Cycle Route as a warm up and wondered if you have considered it for your ride. It seems to be a good intro into some northern European countries before heading south and west for the warmer climates of Southern France and Spain for late Autumn and Winter. Good luck and we might pass each other on the road.

i am also heading off round europe this summer my first bike tour and i will be going solo too. I live in Stratford upon avon England and will be heading off from here on 6th of June. My plan so far is to cycle to Dover get a ferry to Dunkirk and head leftish to Scandinavia hopefully i'll bump into some of you along the way!
