San Diego down Baja and through Mexico

My name is Kate, IM origionally from new zealand but just finished my degree and one year on exchange in Guadalajara Mexico.
Im now free and think its time to fulfil my desire to head out by bike through mexico.
But, ive got basically nothing. Im about to head into san diego tomorrow to check out bikes, prices and gear. Im not familiar with the brands that are sold in the states so im really feeling a bit lost as where to start!
Im sending out a message for anyone who knows anytwhere i could pickup second hand gear, if you know of anyone with extra things lying around, or you yourself have anything at all.
Im also looking for company, if anyone is heading down the baja peninsula, id like to head off in a week or so.
any help or advice would be much appreciated!!

Has to equipment I have toured but it is a long list i would need to give to get you outfitted correctly I would get outfitted than ride up the coast staying in california parks. that way you can test out if you are prepared for touring in mexico. If not ride some more buying what you need in USA and not trying to find what you need in Baja. when you are prepared head back down coast into mexico

I have a very open plan and I have to get to Mexico City by March 20th.
I am crossing sailing as well. A friend of mine invited me to do so. So if you are planning to get here by then, we might ask him for another bunk. Who knows?
