tips for a North Cape trip

Hey everybody :)

I will travel from Oslo towards north this year and am considering to make it to the North Cape, as it is an unique chance...
Has anyone done this trip and can give me some general info (food supply, special equipment, what to see on the way, ferries on the way)? How much time took it for you (how many km/day)?
And especially: what's the best way to get back (if I don't want to destroy my fantastic footprint
of this journey with a flight...)?
