Unavailable hosts appearing in location-based list search

I'm pleased to see that the list search is no longer restricted to an arbitrary three pages of content but now it seems to include hosts currently marked as unavailable (I assume this is a bug and not a feature).

The list search has always

The list search has always included not available hosts. There are many cases where people are looking for someone who is not currently hosting - like when they're looking for a traveler, or a traveler looking for a former host who is no longer available. They are clearly marked as not available though.

I'm open to suggestions about how to do this best. I think color-coding the search results might help, etc.

The list search on the

The list search on the website where you select a country and then a city from a list of auto suggestions? As someone who fairly regularly monitored just how terrible the response ratios of hosts at the top of the list in my city were I was pretty familiar with those members and it certainly didn't include unavailable hosts before the upgrade (see this post for instance - https://www.warmshowers.org/comment/16125#comment-16125 ).

This is just adding a whole new level of difficult to what was already a difficult, time consuming task for guests looking for hosts in large cities.

I just tested a backup instance, and you're right, and I think this can easily be fixed. Thanks. Sorry I was wrong about that.

Actually, fixed already. I happened to be working in that area, so my head was in it and I just pushed a fix.

Get them back!

But… what wrong with having ”not-available”s on the list? To be “not-available” for hosting does not mean to be “not-available “ for contacts. I don’t hesitate to get in touch with a “n-a” when I need an advice or questions about the place he/she lives in. Don’t be petty, get them back on the list. :-)

You can search for any member

You can search for any member, available or not, at https://www.warmshowers.org/search/wsuser - whether available or not. The search picks up usernames, fullnames, and town. This thread was about location-based search.
