New zealand

Roughly planning on a 2 month cycle trip around NZ in Feb and March 2019. Still pondering the route but likely spend longer in the south island.

Thinking of around 40 to 60 miles a day with rest days to see sights, catch up with a few friends and hike some of the trails. I plan on camping and using warm showers as much as possible.

Just wondering if anyone will be out there at the same time to share some of the journey?

I am 31 female and from England. I love tea and bad jokes :)

re: NZ in Feb and March 2019

hello Ms Horner,
my name is Gerhardt Quast. I am very interested in pedaling around the islands of New Zealand in Feb & Mch, 2019, with you ;-)

I am a 64 yr old guy. I'm a vegetarian. (I do eat fish ;-) I am from america (I did NOT vote for our current pres...) (I am happy to not talk politics.)
the only jokes I know are bad jokes ;-) (I laugh at my own jokes.)

this is the first time I've used WS for finding a riding buddy -- how does this work?

I will admit, you do more pre-planning than I do.

tailwinds, Gerhardt Quast

Hi all,

Hi all,

I'm thinking of being out in NZ (and/or Australia or SE Asia) between January and March.  Just posting here to stay updated with everyone's plans; it would be great to have some company.  I'll probably decide my plans quite last minute (mid-Dec maybe) and will be quite flexible in locations.

Hi I will be landing in Auckland Jan 2, plan to go around Crom Penn, Rotorua, Mangakino, TimberTrail, Wellington, Picton, east coast to Churchill, TranzAlpine Train to Greymouth, Queenstown, Tour Doubtful Sound then Otago Trail to Dunedin.  Fly then to Auckland. I did have a biking companion coming with me but he has cancelled. I’d love to bike with someone, 50-80 km/day camping, hostels.

Hey Susan
Yes we could do a part of your trip together if you would like to. Maybe a friend is finally coming as well but it's not sure at all. I arrive at the 7th of march in Churchill so depending where you are then we can get together. Let me know how you get along and good start :)

Last-minute reply

Hi everyone,

So good to see all this enthusiasm! I am very new to warmshowers and to going on a biking trip alone as well, but somehow I planned a 2 to 3 month biking trip trough new Zealand. I am 31 years old and from the Netherlands. The 13th of February my plane will land in Auckland and after some days of preparation (I didn't douch route planning yet) I will be off by bike. So if anyone wants to join bits an pieces, that would be awesome :)

Hope to see you soon!
