Hello Daniela,

Hello Daniela,

We should ask some people from Spain here on the forum I guess.

Is Spain confined ?

Thank you !

Information from Catalonia, Spain

Hello, I am writing from Catalonia, Spain.

Currently each province has different rules and the curfew is also different.
But almost all of them have general restrictions such as:
- Perimeter closure of each community
- Curfew between 8/9/10 / 11pm and 6am, depending on the community
- Regional closure, even some communities have municipal closure.
- Use of the mask everywhere and in all cities, except if you are doing sports (cycling, running, etc.)

On this website, there is an interactive map where you can check all the restrictions, in each community and it is updated every hour.
It is in Spanish, but the browser translates it without problems.

https://www.rtve.es/noticias/20210207/mapa-confinamientos-espana-coronavirus-restricciones/2041269.shtml

I hope it has been helpful, good luck and many warmshowers, but that will be more difficult.

restrictions, in the Netherlands too

Also here in the Netherlands:
- curfew from 9:30 PM to 4:30 AM
- wear face masks in all shops, stores, public places. Not outdoors.
- so-called 'non-essential' shops are closed.
- 'social distance' 1,5 meter (5 feet)

hello warmshowers community,

hello warmshowers community,

This year I plan to visit Austria high Alps the Grossglockner, It will be my dream to go up there with my road bike.

I plan to travel there with my car or bus or anything ( from Romania- transylvania) , I don't know yet and then explore all the nearby mountains with my own bike.

Does anyone have experience on that place ? is it too difficult to climb that mountain? what gear combination is ideal for a fit biker? not beginner but also not a pro.

I also accept any recommendation regards the place , I also accept rider fellows who intend the same thing...maybe we organize something nice together, so any positive recomendation is welcome.

Zsolt

p.s. is is better to fly with your bike than taking a long distance bus ?

Membro WS Foto de Membro WS
Hi Zsolt,

Hi Zsolt,

I don't get your post - it's confusing reading you talk about going up Großglockner by road bike, because this is not possible.

Maybe you are writing about "Großglockner Hochalpenstraße" - A mountain pass that connects Fusch am Großglockner with Heiligenblut - This road goes up until 2504m - there's a tunnel called "Hochtor". From this point you go south and can ride up the road until "Kaiser-Franz-Josephs-Höhe" on 2.300m. Here you can see the summit Großglockner.

From this point on you need to leave your bike and cross several glaciers - glacier experience mandatory - and some rocky parts where you need to climb. It is about 5-10h up to the summit from where you leave your bike.

Greets, Marian

no biggie

If you are russian it is no biggie, even everyone else can travel to Abkhazia except Georgians. Since it is occupied by Russia,i guess coming from Russia is possible. I tried to go to South Ossetia, coming from Georgia, but they took it very serious and did not want to let me in. But a russian friend of mine had no problems coming from North Ossetia.Only thing to consider is, you cannot continue towards Georgia, since you did actually entered Georgia with a proper stamp in your passport. Similiar to Transnistria and Turkish republic of northen cyprus. But it is easy to find out online.

You can go also coming from Georgia since technically it is Georgia but I do not know if you can leave it towards Russia.

Good luck, usually people in those places with no tourists due yo bad media reputation are the kindest and friendliest you will encounter. Like I experienced in Dagestan, North Ossetia, Ingushitia.

Vancouver Island, South, July 2021

Hi,

My wife, 5 year old twins, and myself will be bike camping in Southern Vancouver Island in July.  Route includes Saltspring Island, Sidney to Duncan via the Brentwood Bay ferry, the Cowichan Valley Trail to Goldstream via the Sooke Wilderness Trail, then to Sooke Potholes on the Galloping Goose, and back to Victoria on the Galloping Goose, ending in Saanichton by the Lochside trail.  I'm looking for some grass to pitch a tent in the Duncan area on July 20th, and in Shawnigan lake area on July 23rd.  Happy trails!

planning trip(s)

This year I'm not planning a long bicycle tour. I think of making several short trips, each about a week long, going in different directions starting from home. So I'll stay in The Netherlands. The first trip will be to Deventer, where I'll be a 'VIP guest' at the sheep shearing day (May 15th). First and last night of the trip I'll stay in a small 'sleep wagon' near Vilsteren and the other nights in a 'pod' (very tiny wooden cabin) on a campingsite in Voorst, about an hour South from Deventer. So those aren't Warmshowers hosts. The fist one is a member of 'Vrienden op de fiets', an organisation like Warmshowers, but all Dutch.

Probably I'll have a trip once every month during summer (maybe including September). Last year I did the same. Until now I always camped with my tent. If I'll stay at a Warmshowers host, then maybe I can make my bicycle touring season longer ... I don't know yet. Anyway my planning is to go to the east and north of the province Groningen, and to Friesland.

Sheep shearing?

I know that is a bikeforum, but I am puzzled that noone ask about you being a VIP guest at a sheep shearing day.

I mean, honestly, all the talk about biketours are at some point so repetetive. But mentioning sheep shearing makes this post interesting.

But maybe all people here are only interested in cycling. Who knoww.

I visited the Golden Sheers in Masterton, NZ couple years ago. Amazing culture. A few shearers from the UK, one frenchman, one german, guess those were on their work and travel visas. But I had no clue that there are shearing days in Europe too. For Kiwis it is just daily stuff,I met shearers who sheared 1 million sheep in their career.

So how come you are VIP guest?

Membro WS Foto de Membro WS
Sheep shearing day

Thank you, Sven, for being interested.

Being VIP-guest at the sheep shearing day had to do with giving a donation to a project. I know some people in Deventer. That town has its own sheep herd (to 'mow' the grass in public places) with a female shepherd. And that shepherd has some friends who formed a spinning group, and then they started up a project like Fiber Shed (for the eastern part of the Netherlands). Because I am very interested in natural textiles I follow them. Early this year they started a crowdfunding campaign (for felting the wool they don't spin and making a yurt), to which I donated.

But, I am sorry to say ... the VIP part of the sheep shearing day is cancelled, because of the restrictions :-( (I got that message the day before yesterday). But still I'll do that bicycle trip, and visit one of my friends in Deventer.

Peru

I am in Ecuador. I am going to Peru. Then Bolivia, Chile, Argentina.

Will see how much kilometers are left at the end of my money. The Covid nonsense forced me to stop in Panama for half a year and since I had to eat, I used up some budget that would have let me get to Ushuaia by march 2021 already.

But I told myself I am not leaving this continents before I see the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia.

your tour

Hi Sven. Your bicycle tour sounds very interesting to me too. Do you have a blog or youtube channel or any other way you show something of your trips?
I decided two years ago I won't ever travel by plane anymore. So probably I'll never visit any of the Americas anymore.

I watch youtube videos of others doing bicycle tours. So I see places I'll never reach myself. One of those people is Iohan Georguiev, who rode his bicycle(s) all the way from Canada to Argentina! He often goes off-the-road, he even has a pack-raft to cross water. Somewhat too adventurous to me, but I love watching his videos (those views! Spectacular!).

Cycle trip through Asia

Next March wanna cycle for 3 - 4 years through Asia. First leg will be finished in Japan. India and Indonesia will be next.

Probably heading after this little journey to Australia and the Americas. Let`s see whats possible.

From Cape North to Timisoara

In one months time, I'll be in Norway (hopefully the travel restriction will ease by then), together with my wife Maria, riding the Lofoten, Senja, NordKapp, heading South through Finland, Estonia, Letonia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and finally back home to Timisoara, after visiting some old friends and eventually meeting some WarmShowers hosts along the way. :)

Till then, during this weekend, we'll probably have our first WarmShowers guests, coming from the other end of Romania on their tandem bike...

Ride on!

July, 1300km ride: Lake Huron, Ontario to la Ville de Québec

Hi Tahverlee - Thanks for offering the help. I'm looking forward to helping out anyone coming through Collingwood!

On July 7, I'll be leaving Collingwood, for a 2 week trip to Quebec city. Areas I'll hit are...
Orillia, ON
Bracebridge, ON
Huntsville, ON
Algonquin park via highway 60
Barry's Bay, ON
Portage-du-Fort, QC
Otter Lake, QC
Kazabazua, QC
Maniwaki, QC
Val-Barrette, QC
Nominingue, QC

then along la Route Verte to...

Mont-Tremblant, QC
Petit Saint-Charles, QC
Granby
Sherbrooke
Richmond
Plessisville
Quebec city

While the major points such as Algonquin park, la Route Verte, Mont Tremblau, Montreal, are important, everything else is flexible.

I'm trying to find good campgrounds or just places to make camp. I'd also love to hear from people who may have ridden those areas.

Thanks!

Sincerely,

Mark Lewis

Benelux roundtrip through France (23 July to 7th August)

This is initially a 1-week trip (starting 23/7) which may likely extend to a 2-week trip (finishing roughly 7 august)! Going with 2 others so that's 3 of us - but others are welcome to join the various segments. We suspect our avg speed will be about 24 km/h, combination of 2 race-bikes and 1 hybrid carrying some gear - doing 4-5 hrs of cycling a day. We are 34-38 years old, 2 guys, 1 girl so far, diverse group. https://www.bikemap.net/en/r/8921222/#5.41/50.913/2.413 Looking for hosts too! =)

your first solo cycle tour

Hi Raquel

The cycle route from Copenhavn to Hamburg is easy.  Before planning a route, decide how many KMS /  DAY YOU WANT TO CYCLE.  In 2019, I cycled the other way from France to Sweden along Eurovelo 12 or the N Sea Cycle Route, as we call it. Google Eurovelo 12.

Two places I would very highly recommend are the Hostel on ROMO, the southern island of Denmark.  It was different but beautiful, run by a lovely couple. Then take the ferry into Germany on the VERY expensive isle of SYLT.  Cycle quickly and take ferry to next isle, Amrun and another ferry to Mainland Germany at Schluttsiel.

2nd place is also on the coast in N W Germany - FRIEDRICHSTADT.  I fell in love there

Buena suerte y ciclismo seguro
