Hi All - planning to tour around wales next week. Setting off from the Beacons and heading up to Bangor. Will be wild camping as much as possible and sticking to small coastal and country roads. Always a joy to meet other cyclists and explorers if you're out on the road.

Sounds great! We cycled the Celtic Way across the south of Wales - and that was fabulous too. Have an awesome ride! jo
I’m hoping to bike through Wales in early June of this year as part of my first bike trip in Europe. Tentatively: Newhaven—Cardiff area (but hope to avoid city)—Breton Beacons—Snowdonia—Holyhead, then on to Ireland. I’ll have a1- person tent. Can you give me an idea of how busy it is likely to be ? I’m especially wondering if one needs to reserve places in campgrounds to be sure of having a place and, if so, how far in advance. How was your trip ?
Hi Timothy,
I don't think you would need to book ahead - even when they are busy (usually school holidays!) they will find a corner for a cyclist.... Also Wales is really good for wild camping - so if you get stuck just find a patch of unused ground (next to churches are usually good and most have a tap) or an edge of a field or woods and set up just b4 dark.... !
Your route sounds like you enjoy hills! The Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia are awesome - but obvs a bit chilly up the top... Anglesey is not hilly and really lovely - especially at the coast - maybe see if you can work a route up the west side.... gorgeous!
Have a wonderful trip - and if you have a particularly gnarly hill - or a day tipping down with rain- think of us cycling up the east coast of Scotland at the same time!! I will be swearing at hills and my husband.....!!!! jo
Thanks, Jo, for your helpful and encouraging reply. Greatly appreciated. Maybe we'll cross paths in Scotland as my current plan is to continue on from Wales to Ireland and Scotland Your last sentence reminds me of one I thought of putting in my profile: "Happily married and biking solo helps maintain the happiness" :) :)
