Weather/Route/Tips San Francisco to Seattle in late April

I decided that the best mode of transport to Seattle (From the Bay Area) would clearly be a bicycle. So my process went 1. buy bicycle and 2. read about the routes. I already have the bike now and will be ending a 18 month journey in Seattle, so changing my route to the more preferable North to South is an impossibility. I'm wondering if anyone has good South-to-North route suggestions and what weather to expect in April/May.

1. Would you suggest a route other than the headwind-y coastal route? I know the coast will be beautiful and probably that's my destiny, but I wonder if maybe some inland forest route could be fun and full of good flora? Time isn't so much an issue as beautiful + safe-ish.

2. How will the weather be in late April/Early May?

I hope the headwind and lane size isn't as bad as googling makes it sound!

The headwind is pretty real,

The headwind is pretty real, especially late in the day. If you are familiar with constant 8-12 mph headwind and you don't mind it happening for part of most days, then take the coast!

Personally I'd do the Sierra Cascades route! No snow up there, so you should be good to go! Might get cold at night, but days should be beautiful.
